Originally, the main aggregate of dry powder mortar was natural sand, but natural sand is a locally scarce resource and cannot be regenerated in a short period of time. In many areas, natural sand resources are gradually decreasing, and even resources are depleted, which has attracted national attention and called for ecological protection. Local governments have also successively issued policies to crack down on illegal sand mining and sand making, and adhere to the sustainable development strategy.

Qualified natural sand that meets the requirements is in short supply, and the price of excellent natural sand has risen significantly. Natural sand generally has problems such as large mud content, substandard fineness modulus, and unstable quality, which seriously restrict the development of engineering construction. To solve these problems, new sources of materials that can replace natural sand must be found.
Machine-made sand is a rock particle with a particle size of less than 4.75MM made by mechanical crushing and screening. Its physical and chemical properties are comparable to natural sand. The grain shape of machine-made sand is multi-angular and needle-like, with its reasonable fineness modulus, gradation, and stone powder content, it can meet the material requirements of dry powder mortar so that the construction performance of ready-mixed mortar is not affected. In the dry powder mortar industry, it has become a trend to use sand-making machines in production sites.
At present, the machine-made sand industry is still in its infancy in our country. Most of the dry powder mortar uses medium and fine sand, and the fineness modulus is generally 1.6~2.2, 2.3~3.0, which is the standard for sand production of machine-made sand.
